They are an integral part of providing thousands of individuals each year with the programs and services they need to become more self-sufficient. Leadership Givers are individuals who support United Way with an annual gift of $500 or more. United Way of America's Alexis de Tocqueville Society is named for the famed author of Democracy in America. He came to this country in 1831 and was impressed with our country's fostering of entrepreneurship, volunteerism and new ideas. Like de Tocqueville, Leadership Givers are people of vision. Their community leadership enables them to see sharply the social problems of today and to reach for solutions that will shape tomorrow.
